Sequential Pseudomarkets and the Weak Core in Random Assignments

چکیده

We study random assignment economies with expectedutility agents, each of them eventually obtaining a single object. The assignment should respect object-invariant priorities such as seniority rights in student residence assignment, grandfather rights in landing slot assignment... We introduce the new Sequential Pseudomarket (SP) mechanism, where the set of agents is partitioned into ordered priority groups that are called in turns to participate in a pseudomarket for the remaining objects. We show that the set of all SP-equilibrium random assignments generated by every possible ordered partition coincides with the ex-ante weak core. Moreover, if we …x priority groups and individual budget limits, the resulting SP-equilibrium assignments are generically ex-ante Pareto-optimal.

Sequential Pseudomarkets: Welfare Economics in Random Assignment Economies

We study random assignment economies with expectedutility agents, each of them eventually obtaining a single object. Inspired on Hylland and Zeckhauser’s (1979) Pseudomarket mechanism (PM) and on a serial dictatorship, we introduce the Sequential Pseudomarket (SP) where groups of agents are called turn by turn and participate in a pseudomarket for the remaining objects. To measure e¢ ciency, we...

Wrting to learn (WTL) the effects of written assignments on students learning and writing skills

This research aims to develop a model based on writing to learn (WTL) and the effective on promotion of learning and writing skills of students. Therefore, use the nonequivalent control group design with pre- test and post- test. 115 of the undergraduate students of Education University were assigned at random in three groups: Group 1 (short writing assignments), group 2 (analytical essay), and...

Core Concepts for Dynamic TU Games

This paper is concerned with the question of how to de ne the core when cooperation takes place in a dynamic setting. The focus is on dynamic cooperative games in which the players face a nite sequence of exogenously speci ed TU-games. Three di erent core concepts are presented: the classical core, the strong sequential core and the weak sequential core. The di erences between the concepts aris...

The Weak Sequential Core for Two-Period Economies

We adapt the classical core concept to deal with situations involving time and uncertainty. We define the weak sequential core as the set of allocations that are stable against coalitional deviations ex ante, and moreover cannot be improved upon by any coalition after the resolution of uncertainty. We restrict ourselves to credible deviations, where a coalitional deviation cannot be counterbloc...

On the satisfiability threshold and clustering of solutions of random 3-SAT formulas

We study the structure of satisfying assignments of a random 3-Sat formula. In particular, we show that a random formula of density α ≥ 4.453 almost surely has no non-trivial “core” assignments. Core assignments are certain partial assignments that can be extended to satisfying assignments, and have been studied recently in connection with the Survey Propagation heuristic for random Sat. Their ...
